Rebecca's Special Day!!

Happy Birthday, Rebecca!!

In 1986 Ruth, who had just turned 4, and David, 19 months old, welcomed as their new little sibling, Rebecca Rae! Rebecca was born the smallest of our babies, weighing in at 6lbs. 12oz. She came 10 days before her due date. She was a dark-skinned baby, and her little head was covered with curls right at birth!

Here she is at 4 weeks old.
Rebecca was sweet-natured from the start. Here she is looking at her new little brother (John) just 2 weeks before her 2nd birthday. I wonder if she was contemplating how this would change her life--someone taking HER place as the baby of the family! Here is Rebecca at 4 years old.Rebecca's Birthday party when she was 7 years old. We sure used to have some pretty big parties for all you kids every year over at the house in Lauderdale!! (I ran upon many pictures, but of course I couldn't include them all!) But Rebecca, you probably remember the very fun scavenger hunts and other games we played. I had lots of fun at all the parties too! I remember that I usually didn't have any parents stay because I liked to be in on all the games myself!Ruth the old woman, and Rebecca the kind little boy in the poem I recited and you acted out at Mother/Daughter night at church in 1994. Rebecca is 7 years old, and Ruth is 11.John and Rebecca that same summer.
Rebecca, remember the Laughing game at your 9th Birthday party?

This next picture is that same fall, 1995.Rebecca the year she turned 10 holding her very special guinea pig Muffin.
Rebecca and Joseph have celebrated many of their birthdays together! This is Rebecca's 12th Birthday, and Joseph's 4th. Here was a very typical school day at our house at that same time. Rebecca is doing her assigned dishes while all the rest are crowded around the Monarch Chrysalis ready to open to a beautiful butterfly at any moment. None of us wanted to miss it, and we didn't!! Everyone brought their school to the table to work while we waited. See the lamp lighting it up and how we set it on a pile of encyclopedias so we could see it well? Little Joseph looks so satisfied for some reason! And here is the big 13 for Rebecca. I noticed that the candy card got MUCH larger after the first one I made for Ruth.
Rebecca's 15th birthday. And finally, Rebecca's first birthday in our new home in WBL! (2003) Rebecca is 17 years old here.CEF 2005-The summer before Rebecca turned 19. Esther's 1st year in CEF (13 y.o.) and John almost 17.A surprise party for Rebecca with some of her Northwestern College friends when she turned 21! (2007)Family vacation 2008, at Uncle Tom's Cabin right before David and Kelsea's wedding. Rebecca almost 22!Dear Rebecca, We are all so very grateful to God for the gift of YOU in our lives! May you be blessed with a day just like you--wonderful and beautiful!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Love,
Your Family

Daniel's Poem

Here is the poem that Daniel memorized to start the school year. I hope it's not too small for you to read once I get it blogged! Actually, I discovered that if you click on it twice, it is made large enough to see it all very well! Now Daniel wants to memorize "If" by Rudyard Kipling. I'm glad. I think it is an excellent choice!

Happy Birthday Ruth !!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUTH !! WE LOVE YOU!!!
Twenty- seven years ago on a Friday like today, I began my leave of absence to have my very first baby. I requested my leave of absence to begin on my due date (Sept. 24) which landed at the end of a work week, and I hoped the baby wouldn't take too long to come after my leave started. And starting her little life off just right, little Ruth gave us the weekend to get rested, and labor pains began after we had supper on Sunday night. Early afternoon on Monday September 27, 1982, little Ruth Ellen came into the world!

Since Ruth was the newest baby at church, and I had long hair like Mary would, and Dad had a beard like Joseph, when our church was asked by the city of Jamestown to furnish the Holy Family for the city Pageant, it was us they asked! We spent all day on a Saturday when Ruth was about 9 weeks old manning the manger, amidst crowds of people, the REAL animals, and little children eager to see the little baby in the manger. It was really fun, and Ruth was a perfect baby for the day, complete with some crying, and nursing breaks. Good thing she was our first so we didn't need to think of other children that day!

Ruth at 6 months old.
Ruth's 1st birthday. 1983-Ashland, Wisconsin.
This is the little dress that Grandma and Grandpa gave to Ruth for her 1st birthday. As you can see Dad picked her up for the picture from one of her favorite activities, emptying the kitchen bowl drawer.

Here is Ruth on her 2nd birthday. 1984-Blaine, Minnesota. She was very happy about her new broom and dustpan! Also, she had her first party with the cousins that lived close by. Look how proud she is to have them all there!
Next is Ruth's Birthday Party when she turned 6. This was at the beginning of our 2nd year of homeschooling, our 1st official year in the school district. The year John was born-1988. The picture below of Ruth and David was that same summer before school started.

One year later. Ruth 7 years old, big sister sitting with siblings on the tire sandbox.

Celebrating Ruth!!!

Continuing on....We had so many fun birthdays celebrating our precious Ruth. Here she is on her 8th birthday-1990. And below is 1992, Ruth 1o years old! Look at her new little sister Esther who was born that year!
Ruth celebrating her 12th birthday with friends-1994.

All the girls 5 months later.

And Ruth making cookies with Esther the fall that she turned 13,1995. That would be the year she got the candy card-the year that started an important tradition! (we have good pictures of Ruth with her candy card, but I didn't come upon them when I searched.)
Ruth also got braces that year.

These next two are Ruth on her 16th birthday. She tried to copy her Mom's 16th birthday picture with the raised eyebrow!

And here we all are the fall that Ruth turned 17-1999. We are harvesting the garden that Ruth dug up and planted on our side lawn. This is the fall that Ruth started PSEO at Bethel College, and the beginning of her senior year of high school. Mom is holding 21-month-old Daniel.

After college started for Ruth, there were several birthdays away in other countries, and then at school in Texas. But we were very happy to have Ruth (and her new fiance!) home with us for her 25th birthday the fall of 2007!

Then the happy day arrived of Ruth and Adam's marriage just 3 months later.

And joy of joys...God blessed us all through a NEW little one, and made our Ruth a beautiful mother!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RUTH!!! YOU ARE A GREAT BLESSING TO US ALL! WE LOVE YOU!!

Then It's Fall

When you hear the wild geese calling
And up in the sky you see
That they all are flying southward
In a long and straggling V,
When the woolly caterpillars
Crawl along the porch and wall,
And your kitty's fur gets thicker;
Then you know that it is fall.

...For of all our changing seasons,
None is lovelier than fall.

Happy Fall!! I thought some of you would remember this nice poem because several of you memorized it. I only put in the first stanza. Timothy has now started to memorize it. It is such a picturesque poem of fall. And truly, as good as all the seasons are, I think the fall is at the top (or at least shares the top--spring, summer, and winter all have their particular beauties!)
